Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - QURBAN

1. Who is required to perform Qurban?
Qurban is highly encouraged (Sunnah Muakkadah) for those who meet the following conditions:

  • Muslim

  • Mature (Baligh) – Qurban is not expected (but permissible) from children who have not reached puberty.

  • Sane (Berakal) – Qurban is not required from those who are mentally incapable.

  • Financially able – The individual must have surplus wealth after fulfilling their responsibilities, such as providing food, clothing, and shelter for themselves and their dependents during the days of Eid and Tashriq. They must also have the means to purchase an eligible Qurban animal (camel, cow, sheep, or goat).

2. If one person (e.g., the husband) performs Qurban, is it enough for the whole family?
Yes, it is sufficient. Qurban is also considered a Sunnah Kifayah, meaning that if the husband performs the Qurban, it fulfills the requirement for the entire family.

3. When will the Qurban be carried out?

Qurban will be carried out during the designated days of sacrifice, from the 10th to 13th of Dzulhijjah, in accordance with Shariah guidelines. A confirmation message will also be sent once the Qurban has been successfully completed.

4. Can I share a Qurban animal?
Yes. A cow can be shared by up to 7 individuals, where each share represents one person’s Qurban.
Goats and sheep are for one individual only.

5. If my family and I would like to perform Qurban for a cow, must everyone contribute equally?
No, it is not necessary for each person to contribute an equal share. If one purchases the whole cow, you may include up to 7 names for the Qurban, regardless of how the payment is divided among family members. What is important is that the Qurban is fulfilled, and the names are included accordingly in sha Allah.

6. When do I need to make the intention?
By contributing, you authorise us and our partners to select the animal, perform the slaughter, make the intention (niyyah), and distribute the meat on your behalf in accordance with Shariah.

7. Will I receive any portion of my Qurban meat?
No, you will not receive a portion of the Qurban meat. The meat is distributed to vulnerable communities in the selected region, ensuring that those in need benefit directly from your Qurban.

8. Can I perform Qurban on behalf of my child?
Yes, it is permissible for parents to perform Qurban on behalf of a child who has not yet reached puberty, provided that the funds used for the Qurban come from the parents and not from the child’s property.

9. Can I perform Qurban on behalf of my deceased parents?
While some scholars within the Shafi‘i school permit performing Qurban on behalf of the deceased, the majority opinion holds that it is not valid unless the deceased had made a will (wasiyyah) for it to be carried out on their behalf.

However, what is agreed upon by scholars is that a person may perform Qurban in their own name and intend to share the reward with anyone they wish, whether living or deceased. This is a widely accepted and recommended approach.

10. Am I allowed to cut my hair after purchasing a Qurban animal?
Those performing Qurban are recommended (Sunnah) not to shave or cut their hair and nails once the month of Dzulhijjah begins. Supporters will be reminded a few days in advance and this applies until their Qurban has been completed.

11. Will I receive updates after my Qurban is completed?
Yes. You will be notified once the Qurban has been carried out. A certificate of Qurban and selected photos will be shared 2-3 months after completion.
